The luxury car world has been totally dominated in recent years by the likes of Mercedes, BMW and Rolls Royce. This has kept the rest of the other companies in the dark . Among these outshined companies is the Peugeot. This French car company that have given us very awesome cars in the past ( remember the 406, 504 etc) has decided to shock us once again with a new masterpiece, the 2018 Peugeot 508.

The 508 is a luxury sedan which the company wants to use to lure a little more attention back to itself as it seems. The new 508 promises to offer great performance in an awesome interior. It will made available in late 2018 but was recently unveiled on march 8 at the geneva auto show.

In this article you are going to find everything you need to know about the new Peugeot 508, and its pictures as well.

The new 508 takes a more radical design approach than the conservative vehicle it is replacing. It is now a five-door ‘fastback’, that has a more aggressive roof-line that tapers down to complex rear three-quarter panels that have a multiple pinch points.

Not only do they incorporate parts of the shell shaped ‘shoulders’ that run from the front doors, but also an extra blister over the rear wheel arches. It’s design ensures uncompromising aesthetics and quality: its balanced proportions, the frame-less doors, and overall finish has been designed with utmost precision so that each detail adds its own touch of elegance and perfection.

The new 508 is 1.4 meters, lower than its predecessor, and what that might mean for more headroom, it is also shorter, measuring 4.75 meters long compared with 4.83 meters of the outgoing predecessor. The all-new 508 carries over the claw style tail lights seen on 2016’s 3008 and 5008 SUVs, but the fang lights up front follow the lead of last year’s audacious Instinct concept.

Using the range-topping GT trim, Peugeot threw some extra features in the 508 First Edition, like 19-inch Grey Dust-coated Augusta alloys. It comes in two different colors (Ultimate Red, Dark Blue) and features black accents that highlight the car’s impressive “sharp muscular style.”

With its low, dynamic shape, aggressive front end and steely, muscular style, the all-new Peugeot 508 Fastback brings about a new era of sportiness and elegance. Its sculpted lines, finely detailed grille and new light signature emphasise its sleek, bold and innovative spirit that is aimed at competing with the rest of the automobile world.

Peugeot’s claims that the new 508 is 70kg lighter than the outgoing model and based on the new EMP2 platform which promises a premium ride and handling set-up. “The new Peugeot 508 is fitted a suspension system that allows an exceptional balance between dynamism, extreme comfort and security. This balance is aimed to give off a high-level of performance, whatever the setting. Moreover, the driver can choose between the car’s dynamic characters thanks to the variable damping controlled suspension and the driving mode dial”.

The front of the new 508 draws heavily from the Instinct concept that was first shown by Peugeot at last year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. There are distinctive vertical strips of daytime running lights, DRL at either side of the car (they’ll be LEDs on most models, but clear plastic on lower-end versions of the car). Interestingly, Peugeot has also decided to put the ‘508’ badge on the leading edge of the bonnet – a salute, to the classic 504, the car’s spiritual predecessor that was launched some 50 years ago.

A range of active safety features are offered on new 508, these include: An infra-red camera at the front of the car puts Night Vision technology at your own disposal, making it easier to spot pedestrians or animals in the road at even the darkest night, Latest generation automatic emergency braking system (that detects pedestrians and cyclists both day and night at up to 140 km/h) and collision risk alert, lane keeping assist (including roadsides), Driver attention alert, DAA, High beam assist,Speed limit recognition, Extended traffic sign recognition (Stop, prohibited direction will be automatically recognized by the car),a 360° color camera system, Adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function, Lane-positioning assist (performs like a Stop & Go adaptive cruise control), Active blind-spot monitoring system and more

On the inside, the 508 really tries hard to stand apart from its main rivals and to give BMW and Mercedes a run for their money on interior quality. There are plenty of soft-touch fabrics on the new car, double stitching and grained finishes on the dashboard, plus some neat exotic piano-key like switches that sit below a central widescreen infotainment display.

The vehicle also features the latest evolution of Peugeot’s i-Cockpit, with a fully digital instrument panel and a high mounted 12.3-inch instrument screen above the steering wheel in what it calls a head-up configuration, that can be viewed over the steering wheel instead of through it. It is flanked on the right by a 10-inch center console infotainment touchscreen that display a whole lot of information, including your music playlist, navigation and even weather information.

Complementing the usual bells and whistles is the i-Cockpit Amplify option which offers two customizable ambiences called “Boost” or “Relax.” Boost option evidently elevates your mood, while Relax calms it by adjusting ambient lighting intensity and screen colors, the level and quality of sound coming through the audio system and appropriate seat-massage settings to help match the mood.

Also matched into the i-Cockpit Amplify logic are the car’s drive modes which includes ECO/Sport/Comfort/Normal, as well as your ability to control the damping levels of the car’s electronic suspension ensuring a very smooth ride that can only be rivaled by a handful of cars currently running on the road.

The interior is adorned with full-grain or Nappa leather, satin chrome, Alcantara, Grey Oak wood trim and you can opt for wraparound front seats, or eight-way electric seats, heated and ventilated front and rear seats with added massage function both of which are a step up from the standard seats fitted in the Business trim and above.

There’s also a wide panoramic sunroof and a FOCAL sound system. You’ll find up to 4 USB ports throughout the cabin so everyone can stay charged up and as much as 32 liters of storage space.

Engine and Transmission

In all, there will be two gasoline and four diesel engines available on the new 508. The PureTech gasoline will power the 508 with 180 hp, while the more powerful 225 hp version will be used on the GT variant.

The oddly more complex diesel offering comprised the BlueHDI with outputs between 130 and 180 hp, paired to either 6 speed manual or EAT8 8 speed automatic gearboxes. There is also plan for a hybrid version of the 508, which is expected to be unveiled around 2020 or thereabouts.

  • Exceptional in beauty and craftsmanship.
  • Handling is great.
  • Offers an exotic and luxurious interior.
  • The infrared light system does exactly what it claims.

  • Engine on the base trim is not as powerful as those seen on its competitors.
  • Fuel economy could be better.

Peugeot hasn’t announced how much the new 508 is going to cost but when it appears in dealerships in late 2018 you can expect to pay from approximately the same as for the outgoing model. Entry-level cars will cost from around $35,000 while top-spec hybrids could set you back more than $44,000.
