America’s ban on Huawei has left the smartphone giant without access to the Google Media Suite (GMS). GMS houses Google Play Store, Googe Pay, Assistant and a host of other apps on the Android OS.
This has further affected Huawei’s market as many customers have been put off by the thought of owning a gadget without the google apps that these users love so much.
Huawei has tried living without the Google Media Suite and even started developing its App Gallery called the Huawei Mobile Services. For some other users though, life without Drive, Maps, Photos, etc is still too much to bear.
If you are looking for a way to get apps on your Huawei or Honor device, then this article is for you. Here are the various ways you can install various apps on your gadget without Google Play
1. The Huawei AppGallery
The Huawei AppGallery is Huawei’s own app store for its smartphones. The AppGallery is borne out of the need to provide Chinese consumers with a store to get apps easily since Google is banned from the country.
The Ban on Huawei has allowed them to add the AppGallery to the Huawei Mobile Services (HMS). The company has also invested a lot in the App Gallery as it has also partnered with Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo to get more developers.
The AppGallery has parental control restrictions to help filter content. S you can download, manage, and share apps using the AppGallery.
The AppGallery according to Huawei is the third-largest app store in the world with 400 million active users. Owners of multiple Huawei phones can use Huawei ID to manage their applications.
2. Sideload From APKPure and APK Mirror
APK Pure and APK Mirror seem like repositories of the Google play store due to their ability to provide even the latest versions of most apps on the play store.
APKPure always have different versions of apps based on when they were rolled even up to beta versions. Since Android is open-source, it means Huawei can keep on churning out Android Phones and users can sideload most apps from these sites.
Apps that depend directly on GMS components will not work though e.g Uber and Taxify depends on Google Maps for directions and calculations. Games that also rely exclusively on Google Games will not work too.
3. Get Playstore Alternatives
While the play store is very popular due to Google loading it as part of theAndroid OS to consumers, many other app stores have picked up and filled the gaps where the play store falls short.
For Huawei and Honor devices users, these stores can be used to replace the PlayStore. A good example is the Amazon Appstore. The Amazon Appstore can run alongside other apps stores and works quite well. It is free, has some big and popular names. It also has access to books, audio and videos. Most times, it is cheaper than the Google Playstore,
Another alternative is the F-Droid app. The F-Droid app is mostly for productivity apps and power users as it offers mostly open-source Android apps.
The F-Droid platform itself is open source so it makes sense that the apps found on it are open source too. Though there are basic apps, it is the powerful apps that rule.
Other Stores like AppTiode, MobieGenie, and GetJar also provides access to loads of games and apps. AppTiode though allows submissions from adult-rated developers and you may want to use an anti-virus before you use it
4. Get APKUpdater
APKUpdater helps you get the latest stable versions to apps on your phone. APKUpdater scans your phone for installed apps and gives links to multiple sources like APKMirror and APKPure where you can get the latest versions of those apps. This app simply takes over the play store app update function.
5. Use Xender/APK Extractors
If you have another Android device with access to the play store, you can download the apps you wan and use the Xender app to clone and send them to your Huawei device. You can also use the APK Extractor app to get the raw app from the Android device and send it over to your phone.
6. Manage the web version
Apps like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter all have web versions. Using the web versions of these platforms will save you space that you may have used for installing the apps.
PS; Other than the AppGallery, no other method is official hence use the tips stated here at your own discretion. While we know that the tips are reliable, we are not liable for any damage to your phone.
