Blue screens of death are usually caused by issues with your computer’s hardware driver software or your computer’s hardware. There are times when it can be caused by a problem with low-level software running in your system’s windows kernel. A running app can’t create blue screens of death if any of your apps crash; it will not affect your screen in any way.

When a blue screen occurs, it means that the windows have encountered a ‘’STOP error’’. This is a critical error that will make windows crash and stop working. The only thing that the windows can do at a point like that is to restart the computer. When this occurs, it can result in loss of data because programs are unable to save their open data before the system restarts.

Whenever there is a blue screen of death, the computer immediately creates a ‘’ minidump’’ file that holds all the information on the crash that has occurred and saves the news on your disk. You can view the crash information stored in the minidumps for you find out what is responsible for the blue screen.

Something you need to know about blue screens is that they may look a little different depending on the version of windows you use. In windows version from 7 and other older versions, the blue screen of death looks a lot like a terminal screen, showing different information.

However, in windows eight and Windows 10, the blue screen of death is a lot simpler.

But then, that really isn’t so much to worry about. In also windows version, blue screens usually went by fast enough that it was difficult to read the information. Nevertheless, there are more straightforward ways to get all the information you need for troubleshooting.

Specify whether you want windows to restart when there is a blue screen of death

Windows will automatically restart the system if there is a blue screen of death. This is a default setting, but if you need more time to view the details of the blue screen, or if you want to be sure what you are dealing with is a blue screen, then you can change the default automatic restart setting from the control panel.

How to view blue screen of death information

If you would like to see BSOD information, you can do so from the Windows Event Viewer, where you can find the scattered blue screen of death information among system log messages and application crashes.

Troubleshooting Blue screens of death

If you use windows 7, windows 8, or even Windows 10, it is possible for you to troubleshoot blue screen of death information from the action center. If you use Windows 7, simply go to the control panel > Security and Maintenance.

When you reach the maintenance section, you will find the solution to all existing issues. For Windows eight and Windows 10, the troubleshooting steps are performed automatically when your computer restarts after running into a blue screen of death. Nevertheless, it is still harmless if you choose to visit the action center to find out if there are other troubleshooting steps or details.

If Windows is unable to fix the issue on its own, the best way you can troubleshoot the problem is by searching the internet for fixes. Go to the minidump file to search for specific error on the BSOD.

You may find a ‘’STOP Error’’ number that may look like this ‘’0x00000021’’. You may also see an error similar to ‘’Driver_IRQL_not_less_or_equal.” Whichever error you find, running a quick search for the specific error will most likely produce a beneficial outcome.

Below are a couple of extra ideas that could help you fix the blue screen of death problem.

  • Do a scan for Malware: A Malware that digs deep into your system windows and finds its way into the Windows kernel at a low level can lead to system instability. Do a scan for Malware on your computer to make sure that some malicious software is not responsible for the crash.
  • Use system restores: If your order only started showing the BSCOD errors recently, you can roll the system software to the previous condition using system restore. If this solution works, then you can tell that it is most likely a software issue.
  • Install Update Drivers: A buddy driver, or one that is incorrectly Installed, can cause driver crashes. You need to download the most recent drivers for your PC hardware from the computer manufacturer’s website and install them to fix the BSOD problems.
  • Boot into safe mode: If your computer runs into a BSOD every time you turn it on, then you can try booting into safe mode to fix the issue. When in safe mode, windows can only load the vital drivers. If one of the drivers you have installed is responsible for the blue screen, it should not cause a blue screen of death when in safe mode. Fixing the problem from safe way is the best bet.
  • Reinstall Windows: Performing a clean install or resetting windows is an option. However, how it works is by blowing away your existing system software and replacing it with a brand new windows system. If, after this, you notice that your system still shows a BSOD, then you most likely are dealing with a hardware issue.
  • Check for hardware problems: You may be running into a blue screen problem because your system has a hardware issue. By checking that your computer is not overheating, and testing for memory errors, you may be able to solve the BSOD problem. If this doesn’t work, then you need to get a professional to check for other hardware problems your computer may be having.
