Google Wi-Fi: Price, Design and Installation, Performance

Google Wi-Fi is leading a new revolution in network routers. While devices like Netgear Orbi and Samsung Connect Home ushered in a new era of network routers, Google Wi-Fi got us started around that time. And partly because of the more affordable price and modern design, this is what is most competitive.

With amazingly simple setup and excellent network management thanks to a modernized mobile app, Google Wi-Fi offers a lot. It also provides more mesh units at a better price than many competitors, making it great value for money.

Finally, wrap it all up in a minimalist yet attractive ensemble that will work correctly in almost any situation or furniture.

If you’re ready to move on to wireless network routers, take a close look at Google Wi-Fi. Maybe you are looking for something inexpensive or perhaps a reliable option for your wireless network.

Price and Availability

Besides what it offers in terms of accessibility and functionality, Google isn’t asking for much, especially what Google Wi-Fi can do. For a set of three units, including a primary ‘Wi-Fi access point’ (the one that connects to a modem or gateway) and two points, this will cost $259 (approx. 204 GBP, 399 AUD). Secondary access to a Wi-Fi network. Google promises that three Wi-Fi spots can cover up to 4,100 square feet in one location.

You can buy a Google Wi-Fi unit for just $99 (129 GBP, $199) if you work with a small apartment. If one is based in the UK, you will have the option of Google Wi-Fi in a package of 2 packages and three packages, which will cost you 229 and 329 pounds, respectively.

Australians will be happy to hear that Google Wi-Fi is now available – they can choose a node for $199 or 3 plans for $499.

Google Wi-Fi is exceptional value – it offers more units for less money than any rival, such as the Netgear Orbi, and other wireless network routers cost at least $400 (around $320, $520) the same number of network nodes.

Design and Installation

Google not only has a price advantage but also has the best Wi-Fi units and perhaps the most straightforward setup of all. Each Google Wi-Fi unit, a simple small cylinder with a white LED strip in the middle, offers equal capacity.

This occurs that any Google Wi-Fi unit can serve as the primary “router” for the system. In contrast, others can extend the signal with a cable sent wirelessly to the unit, including Ethernet and Internet ports wireless.

The setup is also totally flawless, as is the hardware design of Google Wi-Fi – use the free iOS or Android app to make the whole process easier. We won’t go into the small details, but the Google Wi-Fi app will let you set up your network first by scanning QR codes on a Wi-Fi hotspot connected to a modem or gateway.

The app will ask you to name a new network and set a password, then pair any free Wi-Fi hotspots you have by scanning their QR codes; then, you can call the individual nodes in the app. Again, the first Google Wi-Fi node only needs a little time to recognize the additional nodes and start working.

You will not get the same depth of access that Netgear Orbi offers, so changing the range is not an option. However, Google Wi-Fi automatically handles this behind the scenes.

The Google Wi-Fi app provides more useful settings, such as monitoring of your network and connection. This is the most comprehensive and sophisticated set of commands we have ever seen in a Wi-Fi network, despite the lack of drop-down lists and switches.

You can also determine the device’s bandwidth over a while, manage smart home devices, and suspend internet access to specific devices in a known environment, all within the limitations of this app.

And now, Google has extended the Google Wi-Fi network validation feature to test a variety of devices so that you can detect potential bottlenecks in your network and rearrange Google Wi-Fi points when trying to optimize for the network performance.

Performance

Google Wi-Fi

Google Wi-Fi can match, if not exceed, the performance of Netgear Orbi. Taking full advantage of our 100 Mbps Wi-Fi service, we certainly haven’t seen any routers capable of providing the same service. But the main difference here is that Google Wi-Fi can bring this high performance to any room in our house, no matter how small.

We can stream 4K videos via Netflix to our Roku Premiere in the basement, as well as play Overwatch in a hassle-free modem office. Wi-Fi network systems like Google Wi-Fi are not so much about performance as it is coverage. Still, this product helps.

The traffic priority feature ensures that your gaming session receives more of this critical bandwidth than other devices in your home that is more commonly used for Facebook and HD videos. Also, the network can be repaired automatically if one or more Wi-Fi access points accidentally lose power.

Although we know that Google Wi-Fi manages the network system in the existing Wi-Fi bands (2.4GHz and 5GHz) through the 802.11s network protocol, instead of a three-band Netgear Orbi system that communicates through another bandaged, on a 5GHz Wi-Fi network, I did not see a significant difference between these two networks’ performance. We see slightly higher download speeds in MB/s on the Orbi 2.4GHz band via Google Wi-Fi. However, this could also be a possible anomaly.

Google Wi-Fi can match or exceed the performance of Netgear Orbi. Where Google Wi-Fi stands out over similar routers is its incredible price/coverage ratio. You can undoubtedly get similar coverage from competing systems with fewer drives. Still, the flexibility you have if you have more purposes, specifically minimizing dead spots, is enormous.

Conclusion

Google Wi-Fi is the most straightforward, effortless router we’ve ever set up, bar none. And this concerning the two additional devices required to complete the procedure.

For a reasonably affordable price, it offers more units than most of Google’s competitors, as well as the best configuration and management app yet.

Despite the lack of more adequate hardware controls and the lack of performance of the AC3000 or AC2200, Google tested every switch and tested it could present in an easy to understand way through its app.

There is even a bandwidth priority control. Combine that with a neat, clean hardware design that’s better to flaunt than any router we’ve seen so far, and what you’ve got is one of the best Wi-Fi systems the money can buy in 2019
