Mexico 1-0 Germany

Mexico were well organised at the back and ruthless on the counter attack although they could have added more against Germany with the duo of Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng at their mercy whenever they forayed at goal. One of those adventures produced a much deserved goal for the Mexicans as Javier Hernandez broke away from Mats Hummels before feeding Hirving Lozano on the left allowing the PSV forward cut in to his right foot before quickly shooting into back of the net with Germans closing down.

Sweden 1-0 Korea Republic

Sweden needed VAR intervention to get past South Korea at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium. After dominating proceedings in the first half with nothing to show for it, the Swedes finally got their chance to go ahead in the 65th minute after Viktor Claesson was brought down by Kim Min-woo with the referee deciding to award the spot-kick after video replay after initially waving away penalty appeals. Andreas Granqvist then stepped up to score for Sweden from the penalty spot.

Mexico 2-1 Korea Republic

Son Heung-Min’s late strike might have been the pick of the goals but it was mere consolation as South Korea bowed out of the world cup with a game to spare. Mexico coming off the back of a memorable victory against defending champions Germany started well and in the 26th minute took the lead via a Carlos Vela penalty after Jang Hyun-soo was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the penalty area.

Mexico’s all-time leading scorer Javier Hernandez doubled the advantage for El Tri in the 66th minute taking his tally to 50 international goals. Son then nestled a brilliant strike into the back of the net from 20 yards out in the 93rd minute.

Germany 2-1 Sweden

Two second-half goals from Marco Reus and Toni Kroos completed a miraculous turnaround for reigning Champions Germany keeping their world cup hopes alive.

Sweden opened scoring in the first-half when Ola Toivonen lobbed the ball over the onrushing Manuel Neuer. The lead would only last till three minutes after the break when Marco Reus managed to put the ball into the back off his leg to level the scores.

With a man down and five minutes of additional time played, Toni Kroos and Marco Reus conjured a free-kick routine which the former curled into the far post to spark wild celebrations.

Korea Republic 2-0 Germany

The encounter played out arguably the most surprising outcome in this year’s world cup as South korea who were already eliminated put two late goals past the Germans to seal their doom as the third consecutive defending Champions to exit the world cup.

The Germans struggled to break down South Korea’s resistance and were made to pay in stoppage-time. Kim Young-Gwon gave Korea the lead after he was played one-on-one against Manuel Neuer from a Toni Kroos howler. Then with Germany playing high up the field in search of a miraculous turnaround, Ju Se-jong stole possession away from Manuel Neuer then sending a long ball to Son who raced clear of the German backline to tap home.

Mexico 0-3 Sweden

As things turned out to be, Sweden climbed to first position in Group F after a 3-0 win over Mexico. Both teams would go on to qualify from the group however Mexico would later go on to rue not having clinched first place. ludwig Augustinsson volleyed into the Mexican goal to give Sweden the lead before Andreas granqvist scored his second penalty of the tournament to double the advantage for the Swedes. Edson Alvarez would go on to score but against his own side as he turned the ball into the back of his own goal to cap a superb night for Sweden.
