Use iPhone to Remotely Control Your Mac

To acquire the ability to control your Mac using your iPhone or even iPad remotely, you will be required to install a remote control app on your iPhone along with its companion Menu bar app on your Mac. After the apps installation, you will be allowed to control your Mac with your iPhone or your iPad easily. Here are the simple steps you will need to follow to set everything up:

1. Click the link to download and install the “Remote Control for Mac (Free or $9.99)” app from the Apple App Store by clicking on the link. Go ahead and launch the app and you will notice the link that you need to open on your Mac to enable you to download the Helper app on your Mac.

2. Open a browser on your Mac and either manually feed the link you found in the app or click here. On the page, click on the ‘Download’ button to download the helper tool.

3. A zipped file will be downloaded onto your Mac. Double click on the file you downloaded to extract the package installer and then again double click on the installer to initiate the installation. Now, follow the on-screen instructions and grant permissions where necessary.

4. Once the package is installed, the app will live your Mac’s menu bar. Click on the app icon and then click on the ‘Show QR Code’ button to show the code.

5. Now, launch the app on your iPhone or your iPad and scan the QR code on your app. Once this is done, a connection will be established, it looks like something shown in the image below.

6. Click on the toggles at the top row on the app to explore the media apps that you can control and see the reactions associated with them. As you can see, not only can you manage your media playback in apps, but you can also control media playback in services like Prime Video and Netflix when streaming contents using your browser.

7. The tabs below shows different categories of things that you can execute using the app. but until now, we have only been exploring the media tab. Tap on the “Input” tab, and to be able to use your iPhone as a trackpad and keyboard.

8. Similarly, the “App” tab is for launching apps and executing actions on them, and the “Menu” tab is for performing actions on the app that you are presently using on your Mac, while the “System” tab is for performing system-level tasks.

As you can see, the app is compelling and allows you to take control of your Mac from your iPhone. However, do note that besides standard media control and keyboard & trackpad functionality, all the other exclusive features are locked behind the one-time payment of $9.99.
