Infinix Note 4 Unboxing and First Impressions

About 5 months ago, late into August 2017, Infinix Mobility announced two new additions to the “Note” series of smartphones – the Note 4 and Note 4 Pro. These devices are special; as they both packed completely new technological innovation (like X-Charge, X-Pen) that weren’t featured in earlier products in the “Note” series.

Out of the pair (Note 4 and Note 4 Pro), more focus will be placed on the Infinix Note 4 ’cause —as the title of this article reveals— I have a unit here to unbox, then review after extensive usage. The device went on sale in September 2017 and is still very much available.

So, let’s get to it.

Package

Boxed in a rectangular torquoise blue cardboard, the Infinix Note 4 comes in super simplistic package. At the top of the package, a large white “NOTE4” inscription is scribble neatly on the middle of the package.

The brand’s “Infinix” logo sits at the top left corner, while at the top right corner, there is an indication of the storage property of the device in the package is. This serves as an easy identification of the what variant is in the box as there are two variants; variant A with 2GB RAM & 16GB ROM, and variant B with 3GB RAM & 32GB ROM respectively.

The unit being unboxed in this piece is the 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM variant of the Note 4.

More specifications of the device are scribbled in tiny letters and numbers on the rear of the box, alongside IMEI numbers for both SIM slots and a couple of barcodes & QR codes.
Opening the box, another open-top box slides out, revealing the Infinix Note 4.

The Note 4 is placed, tightly, in the front compartment of the box and on the screen of the device, some highlight specifications of the Note 4 are printed on a polyethylene film: the revolutionary X-charge (which gives 250minutes of talktime from just 5 minutes of charge), 4,300mAh, and 13MP+5MP camera.

Turning the box to the rear reveals another compartment where the Note 4’s accessories and other like warranty cards and instructions manual are enclosed.

  • 1 TPU case

  • 1 screen protector film

First Impressions

Holding the Infinix Note 4 for the first time felt real nice. The device, despite its phablet-sized felt naturally slim and premium; though a little bit heavy. The device is curved on both sides and this also makes it feel good to hold in the hands.

Infinix Note 4 Unboxing

The Note 4 has a body made from a glass & plastic mix; a reflective and glossy plastic covering on the rear and a curved glass on the front. The glossiness of the rear is attractive but it has a downside which makes the device looks like a mess —it retains finger prints.

The 13-megapixels primary camera and dual LED flash light are placed at the top centre on the rear.

The Note 4 has a removable back cover, and underneath is the huge 4,300mAh battery and the various card slots.

The SIM 1 and SIM 2 (micro SIMs) slots are on the right, micro SD card on the left.

At the top of the display, there is a huge chunk of bezel that houses the proximity sensor, front-facing LED flash, earpiece, 8-megapixels selfie camera, and notification light from left to right respectively.

The notification light lights up RED when charging, GREEN when full, and blinks GREEN when there is a new notification.

There is a home button below the display. The sensor for fingerprint identification is embedded in the home button.

The multitasking and return capacitive soft-keys are flanked to the left and right of the home button and are in form of a tiny white dot. It would have been a plus if the Note 4’s capacitive soft-keys lit up, but they don’t. However, it’s somewhat negligible as locating them in the dark is one easy task.

The 3.5mm headphone jack is on the  top of the device.

Two grills are on the bottom; the one on the left houses the loudspeaker while that on the right has the microphone. The micro USB port for charging the device and for file transfer is in between the grills.

The volume adjustment buttons, as well as the power/lock button are on the right-hand side of the device.

The display of the device is good; colours and images on the Full HD (FHD) display are clear, sharp, crisp, and really responsive to touch.

My experience so far with the Infinix Note 4 have been great. Compared to other members of the Note series (the Infinix Hot Note, Note 2 and Note 3), the Note 4 is on a whole new level, especially in terms of design, appearance, and build.

Big battery, extraordinarily fast-charging feature (the X-charge), slim build; the Note 4 is a premium looking smartphone. But is it really premium? Is it a smartphone you should shell out your money for?

I’ll tinker around the device for some couple of days to find out if the device is worth its $138.99 (NGN 50,000) price tag or not. Meanwhile, you can purchase the 3GB RAM version of the Infinix Note 4 on GearBest below.
