The Heating Power of the Elements Within Kettles

Technology is truly amazing, especially when you take into consideration the intricate details and circuitry work that is conducted on even some of the smallest devices and appliances available for purchasing on the market today.

Electric kettles are some of these innovative devices that most people enjoy but very few people know exactly how they work and what allows them to use electricity in order to heat their water to a point of boiling.

Studies have proven that the power of the electric kettle comes from within the device itself and operates through the heating elements that are constructed to channel this electric power in a way that helps to make the electric kettle on the most efficient appliances that can be used in the kitchen.

What is the Kettle Element?

The kettle element is found within the electric kettle and is a significant component that converts the electrical currents that flow through this device into heat.

Therefore, the water that is placed within these kettles would not be able to receive any amount of heat much less start to boil if it was not for these imperative kettle elements operating properly within these devices.

These vital elements are normally located towards the bottom of the kettles and may look like a tube that runs through the lower section of the actual vessel itself.

There are, however, several popular designs that are used by manufacturers around the world that consist of flat plate elements which are used to directly apply heat to the kettle’s bottom.

Regardless of the type of the element that is used in specific models or even the location of the element on the device itself, they are going to eventually break and need some sort of maintenance, repair or even replacement.

This is why it is so important to keep these devices cleaned, because the regular usage can cause them to build up dirt and other detrimental materials over time.

Do Not Forget about the Resistor

Even though the kettle element plays a large role in the overall conversion of this electrical power, it is not that the only factor that plays a part in this equation.


The electricity that generates the heat actually has to first pass through an electrical current that is found within a resistor. The resistor permits the electrical current to pass through but it is also responsible for making sure that everything flows smoothly.

As soon as that current is forced to overcome any friction or resistance, a significant portion of the current’s energy is then released from within the device as heat.

You can never truly appreciate the amazing inner working of the electric kettle just by looking at it from the outside. The stylish design and image that the manufacturer may have chosen to appeal to the eyes of their customers conceals the powerful work that is continuously occurring within the device itself.

The heating element of quality electric kettles is the most important part of these devices simply because without them, these kettles would be nothing more than water pitchers.
