Choose a DSLR camera or Digital Single Lens Reflex camera that lets you take complete creative control over the images that you click.

Offering superior picture quality and performance, DSLR cameras are a popular choice among amateur photographers as well as professionals.

Some of the benefits of a DSLR camera include superior image quality, large ISO range, better manual controls, quality optics and depth of field.

Types of Digital SLR Cameras

A digital SLR camera can have an interchangeable or a fixed lens. A DSLR with fixed lens offers limited focal lengths. Interchangeable lens DSLRs, on the other hand, are more flexible and versatile in comparison to the ones with fixed lens.

You can either attach a wide angle, standard or telephoto lens to an interchangeable lens DSLR to enhance your photography experience.

Xplorion presents our list of top 5 DSLR Cameras that suits your photography needs based on its resolution, optical zoom, display size and viewfinder type.

1. Nikon D5200

Nikon D5200

The Nikon D5200 is a new 24.1megapixel DSLR camera that can record Full 1080p HD movies at 1920×1280 pixels / 25fps or 50i/60i with stereo sound.

A high-resolution 3-inch vari-angle LCD monitor makes it easier to compose your shots from difficult angles, while the extensive ISO range of 100-25600 should cope with virtually all lighting conditions.

A 5fps burst shooting mode, EXPEED 3 image processor, 39-point autofocus system with 3D Focus Tracking, 2,016-pixel RGB metering sensor, High Dynamic Range mode, Active D-Lighting, seven different special effects for stills and movies and a new generation GUI design complete the Nikon D5200’s headline specs.

Available in three colours, black, red and bronze.

What makes it to be on top ?

Features like seven different special effects for stills and movies and a new generation GUI design.

Camera offers a broad range of retouching tools, including post-capture D-lighting ,  trimming, monochrome conversion, different filter effects, colour adjustments, image resizing, image overlay, in-camera raw processing, quick auto retouching, straightening of crooked pictures, lens distortion correction, fisheye, colour outline, colour sketch, selective colour, miniature effect, and perspective control.

Many of these functions make it unnecessary to buy specialised computer programs or plug-ins and spend hours in front of a computer to achieve a desired/popular effect.

2. Canon EOS 600D

Canon EOS 600D

The 18 megapixel Canon EOS 600D (called the Digital Rebel T3i in North America). The 600D / T3i offers a 1,040,000-dot vari-angle LCD screen, a 63-zone metering sensor – identical to the one used in the more expensive EOS 7D – standard ISO settings of 100-6400 (expandable to 12800), and 3.7fps continuous shooting.

The 600 D’s video mode features 1080p Full HD recording at 24/25/30fps and 720p HD capture at either 50 or 60 fps, with full manual control over exposure and gain.

What makes it to be 2nd on the list ?

The camera runs on a proprietary LP-E8 battery which, according to measurements that conform with CIPA standards, provides enough power for 400-440 images when using the optical viewfinder, and about 150-180 shots with Live View or about one and a half hours of video recording.

Why on the 3rd position ?

The Nikon D3200 is powered by a proprietary Lithium-ion battery and ships with a cordless charger that plugs directly into a mains socket.

For storage, the camera uses SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards. As far as connectivity goes, there are A/V Out, mini HDMI and USB terminals, a proprietary connector for an optional cable release or GPS unit, and the already mentioned external microphone socket.

One advantage that the Sony range still maintains over either Canon or Nikon is that the A58 features built-in sensor shift image stabilization, hence no need to spend extra on specialist lenses to help combat camera shake.

On the Sony A58 light sensitivity stretches from ISO 100 all the way up to ISO 16000.
