Dogs are wonderful creatures. They make the most delightful companions, playmates, and friends who adore us until we outlive their years. Many of us treat dogs as family.

That’s why when one of our furry friends gets sick; we do our best to make sure they’re well cared. When it comes to making sure their health is good, the vet’s still the best place to keep your dog’s wellness checked.

But, unknown to many, your home is also a good place to find effective and vet-approved natural remedies. The following are safe natural home remedies you can use to treat minor diseases and everyday dog health complications.

Oatmeal Paste

Oatmeal Paste

Aside from being a good breakfast staple, oatmeal is historically used as a skin protectant. First cultivated in Mesopotamia in 500 B.C, oats were used by Egyptians, Greeks and Romans to beautify skin and treat infections. Today, it has become a popular skin medication for dogs.

Skin disorders are the most common health problem in dogs. Common causes include dirt, poor diet, and harsh grooming products. But not to worry. This can be alleviated by using an oatmeal paste.

Creating an oatmeal paste is very easy. Starting with half a cup of water and a half cup of oatmeal, simply mix the ingredients to create the paste. Then, apply the mixture to the itchy or inflamed area of the dog’s skin and leave it for 10 minutes before rinsing. Experts recommend doing this for more than three times a day until the skin allergy is cured.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar

As a superfood, apple cider vinegar doesn’t lack in health benefits. A wonder food that shows promise in reducing the risk of diabetes, heart complications and body odor – apple cider vinegar is also known as one of the best home remedies for dogs. It can be used to treat many everyday complications that affect your dog’s health.

Apple cider vinegar can be used as a cleaning liquid to treat your dog’s yeast infected ears. It can also be used to repel fleas, ticks and other insects that are hiding under your pet’s coat. When used as a grooming product, apple cider vinegar can provide healthy skin and fur for your dogs.

Petroleum Jelly

Cuts and wounds are common injuries that affect dogs of all shapes and size. While these are only minor and pose no deadly health risk, sometimes they can turn to infections if not cared for properly.

To prevent contamination and inflammation, use petroleum jelly on your dog’s wound.During winter, petroleum jelly is one of the best home remedies that can be used as an effective covering for your pet’s pad and between toes to prevent ice formation.

Olive Oil

olive oil

Greeks love olive oil and not without reason. Aside from being a great source of antioxidants, olive oil contains monounsaturated fats that lower your risk of coronary heart disease. Olive oil, like apple cider vinegar, has a lot of great uses that will prove beneficial for your dog’s health.

You can use olive oil to take away chewing gums or other sticky substances attached to your dog’s fur. Olive oil makes your dog’s coat easy to comb and wash away the dirt. Some people also use olive oil to cure their pet’s dry skin and dandruff.

Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil contains lauric acid that helps fight yeast infection in dogs. The good thing about coconut oil is it can be used externally or internally for various pet complications.
Coconut oil can be used to treat skin problem in dogs such as contact dermatitis, eczema, and flea allergies. When applied to a dog’s coat, it makes the fur shiny and reduces doggy odor. It’s also a great disinfectant for cuts and wounds providing faster healing.

Canned Pumpkin

These popular Halloween ornaments are not just great decors for your spooky house, they can also be a healthy snack for your four-legged friends. Canned pumpkin has a lot of health benefits for people and dogs alike.

Just like us, our furry friends need fiber to have smooth and regular digestion. Experts recommend giving your dog one or two tablespoons of pumpkin if he experiences diarrhea and indigestion.
