The Umidigi A9 Pro can be called a smartphone built for the current coronavirus pandemic due to its design. With the non-contact infrared thermometer as its secret weapon and major selling point, this smartphone has gained a lot of attention.

But what else has this device got? I know you are wondering if its all thermometer and nothing else. We will be taking you on a brief journey to see all its features and its price in Nigeria.

If you are in a hurry, you can take a look at the quick specifications table below.

Design and Build Quality

When it comes to aesthetics, Umidigi always tries to bring the best it can despite its low prices. The glass-sandwich build (glass front and glass back) has been consistent with the Umidigi A series since the inception of the A3 and the A9 Pro has taken the baton.

The smartphone has a solid metal frame and 2.5D glasses for durability. This design is premium and sleek as almost all other devices in its category sport polycarbonate materials. The only raw back is the lack of Gorilla Glass but its okay as that would have increased the price of the smartphone.

At the front of the smartphone is the very slim U shaped notched and a slim chin making the device almost bezel-less. The chin isn’t intrusive and also helps with structural integrity. This design makes sure we have most of the screen area for our use.

Umidigi A9 Pro

At the back of the A9 Pro is the camera module cutout that locate at the top left. This houses the camera lenses, infrared thermometer and LED flashlight. The fingerprint sensor lies at the middle. Unlike the Umidigi Bison, there is no IP rating though the device should at least be at IP57.

Other features available includes the dedicated thermometer button, SUB C, 3.5mm jack and the Dual SIM + Memory card slot.

Ahh, one of my favorite segment on every Umidigi article. Feels good to know Umidigi has been consistent with the 2340 x 1080 pixels resolution Full HD display on most of its smartphones. This is also present on the Umidigi A9 Pro and it is all on a 6.3 inch Incell LTPS screen.

This makes their display great and above decent especially when Infinix and Tecno have decided to keep churning out 720p smartphones. The A9 Pro display is really bright and you may experience some discomfort at night if you crank the brightness up to 100%.

Screen-to-body ratio stands at 92.7% while you also have 409 pixels per inch on this display. If the A7 Pro is good (which I am currently enjoying) then the A9 pro is definitely superb.

Umidigi A9 Pro Camera Specifications

While the camera on the A7 Pro were a bit underwhelming, the A9 Pro came to correct that with better specifications. The A9 Pro offers 24MP Sony selfie shooter, a great boost over the 16MP lens on the A7 Pro.

At the rear side, you get the popular Sony 48MP Matrix Quad Camera as the main shooter, paired with 16MP ultra wide angle camera that has 120° field of view, 5MP depth camera, and 5MP macro camera with 2cm macro distance.

Just make sure you are getting the 128GB storage variant of this device to enjoy the 48MP Sony lens else you will end up with a 32MP rear shooter. There are lots of software features that accompanies the camera but there is no image stabilization.

Either ways, you will still be getting crisp clear images and if you are familiar with mods, you can add the modified version of Google camera and get even better pictures.

When it comes to performance Umidigi still manages to make the best decision for its smartphones while keeping down cost. Instead of going for up to date entry level chips, Umidigi usually goes for an older mid tier chip that still has great performance.

This ensures you have a smartphone that is performing above entry level for entry level prices.

Umidigi A9 Pro

In this smartphone, we have the Helio P60 Chip released in 2018, which is still very efficient and has great performance. The Helio P60 chip has 4 x Cortex-A73 chips with speed up to 2.0GHz & 4 x Cortex-A53 with 1.8GHz max speed.

The Mali G72 GPU also ensures that you can play some taxing games on it with good graphics and no stutter.

For memory options, you can get 4GB or 6GB of RAM paired with either 64GB of storage or 128GB of storage. The A7 Pro 4GB of RAM space is quite efficient and doesn’t lag but if you want to get the 48MP Sony camera, you need the 4GB/128GB or 6GB/128GB variant.

Battery and Connectivity

Umidigi A9 Pro boost a battery with 450mAh capacity and that is capable of going a full day on a full charge. And if you need more juice, you have 10W fast charging to help refill the battery in no time.

The phone ships with stock Android 10 OS with no third party apps, ads or bloatware, giving you the true Android experience. The Umidigi A9 Pro is 4g dual sim smartphone, will all 4G bandwidth supported.

There is a a 3.5mm headphone jack. USB type C, WiFi 2.4GHz/5GHz bandwidth and Bluetooth 4.2. Amongst the sensors is the contact-less Infrared Thermometer that helps measure temperature of other people.
