Tems early life
Tems was born on the 11th of June, 1995, as Temilade Openiyi, into a family of a Nigerian mum and British father, in Lagos, Nigeria. She is currently 25 years old. Her mom raised Temilade after her parents separated at the age of five.
She had her primary and secondary education in Lekki, Lagos. At school, she showed much interest in music and was noticed by her music teacher. She learned to play the piano and would also practice singing with her brother’s guitar accompaniment.
She attended Dowen College in Lekki and furthered her education in South Africa, where she studied and graduated from Johannesburg University with a degree in economics.
Tems journey into the music industry started when she was 20, as an alternative singer. She released her first EP titled “Time Swap EP” in 2013. The first single she got recognized for was “Mr. Rebel,” a song that captivated people’s attention due to its lyrics. Mr. Rebel got over 200,000 views on YouTube.
