Livingstone Etse Satekia was born on March 5, 1988, in Ashaiman, Greater Accra. Stonebwoy’s mother was Catherine Satekla, and she passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra. Not much is publicly known about his father.
The singer also has a sister known as Sara Satekla. He is also rumoured to have had a twin brother who passed on long ago.
Stonebwoy began making music in his early school days, acquiring his skills as a lyricist and scriptwriter at a young age. He started writing songs and performing drama pieces as far back as the fourth year of primary school.
Stonebwoy attended and graduated from Methodist Day Secondary School alongside famous Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie.
He had his tertiary education at the University of Professional Studies and graduated with a degree in Marketing in 2013.
He started his high school rapping career with underground rap competitions. Seeing his potential, his family encouraged him to join the “Kasahare” Level rap battle competition, through which he eventually met record producer Samini and was signed to Samini Music, his original label.
Stonebwoy recorded his first hit single titled “Climax” under “Samini Music”. The breakthrough hit song featured Samini, and it was later followed by another hit titled “Ghetto Love” featuring Irene Logan. At the Ghana Music Awards, both pieces won him nominations.
He released his debut album’ Grade 1 Album’ after this exposure. The album contains seventeen songs, aside from those listed above, and also features prominent Ghanaian artists such as Tinny and Edem. The debut album release made the brand Stonebwoy a household name in the music industry.
In 2014, his second album, named Necessary Evil, was released. It consists of twenty-nine songs, including the Baafira hit single featuring Sarkodie. Out of the six nominations the album received in the Ghana Music Awards, Necessary Evil bagged three.
The Epistles of Mama was his third album and was dedicated to his late mother Mrs Catherine Satekla, and was released on December 12 2017. The 24 track album features famous artists like Sean Paul, King Pledge, and Burna Boy.
The album also peaked at number thirteen on the world’s top 200 albums on the Billboard chart. According to reggaeville, ‘Epistles Of Mama (EOM)’ was named the second-best album worldwide in 2018. YouTube honoured the album for reaching over 10 million views.
Stonebwoy released his fourth studio album on April 24 2020. The album featured a variety of music artists and producers from across the globe.
